Traditional Mid-Eastern Dance often called belly dance is rooted in the history of many different cultures and countries. These free classes are open to all genders, experiences, and ages. Please wear a hip scarf and comfortable clothes. The class begins with a warm-up, learning new steps, and review of past steps, which will all form into a choreographed dance. Veils, zills, finger cymbals and canes will be used during class.

Arizona’s history of the LGBTQ community begins long before Arizona was a state with the Native American belief of two-spirits, continuing on through to the seismic shift of Civil Unions / Marriage Equality. There are some surprises along the way as we talk about artists such as Keith Haring and George Quaintance. There is also the little known story of a 1906 Russian gender pioneer Nicolai de Raylan. Where was the Trans Flag created?
Marshall Shore is Arizona’s Hip Historian. Marshall received a Masters of Library Science and worked for almost 20 years with New York, Brooklyn, and Phoenix Public Libraries. Since 2014, Shore has volunteered as the Project Manager for the Arizona LGBT+ History project.

Chi gong is a Chinese gentle exercise which moves energy throughout the body to promote health and relaxation. The exercises are based on the movements of animals changing with the seasons. A short meditation is incorporated into each class.
The Annex is located in the BUSD Administration Building located at 519 Melody Lane in San Jose. Classes will be held in the Ramada, located in the back of the building. Classes are free and open to everyone, and no experience is needed!
