Meet at the Copper Queen Library
Why are there so many types of building styles in Bisbee? The answer is: Bisbee is laden with several architectural styles and categories from multiple time periods from its colorful past. Join us for an architectural stroll to critically examine a unique revival “category” of architecture from the Victorian period where you will come to know its distinguishing characteristics. “Italianate architecture” is termed a category of Victorian architecture, which is not a particular “style” but rather a category of the era design during the reign of Queen. The Italianate category began in Britain and dispersed throughout the world, preferred the use of architectural elements from the romanticized past. The outcome created buildings that offered a departure from the mainstream formality of Classical architecture. Consequently, the Italianate architecture you will observe among several Bisbee buildings embraces a less rigid building form that will be our focus.
