What is the City of Bisbee General Plan Update?

The General Plan is a roadmap for Bisbee’s future, created and approved by the community.

Through rounds of feedback, the General Plan update knits together the broad array of experiences that define the city’s character.

Over the next several months, community members have an opportunity to give feedback on our community’s common goals and diverse aspirations.

What’s in our current plan?

Our current General Plan was written in 2003 and updated in 2015.

It covers a wide range of topics that city residents like you felt were important to include.

It is important that we hear from you to gather feedback on the current desires, needs, and challenges that community members feel need to be addressed. Through this process, we can work to co-create a vision for the future.

The General Plan includes sections on the following:

• Land use, water, housing, and cost of development element
• Circulation and transportation element
• Open space, environment, and growth area element         
• Recreation, parks, arts, and community element

How is the General Plan used?

The content of the General Plan impacts everyday life because City representatives refer to it in various important ways.

• Guides the City’s decisions about investments, programs, and policies.
• Provides information for grant applications to fund city projects
• Informs land use decisions like re-zonings

How can you get involved?

Every 10 years, citizens can share their input to guide the development and adoption of the general plan.

The City of Bisbee believes the best approach to fulfill its obligation of creating a general plan every 10 years is to ask citizens for their input to guide the development and adoption of the new plan.

The goals and policies spelled out in the new Plan will be used to guide the City’s investments, programs, policies, and land-use decisions over the next decade.

By participating in the General Plan Update process, you can influence the plan's content to make it more relevant to you.

What can you expect from the updated Plan?

The updated Plan will include goals and policies that are still relevant from the prior plan and other recent City planning efforts. It will also address new priorities and emerging issues that you help identify.

Once the General Plan draft is reviewed by the public through a public hearing process and accepted by the Mayor and City Council, it will be adopted by Mayor and Council.
